Why Most Online Communities Fail |
|
From the WSJ Blog, Deloitte consultant Ed Moran has completed a study of 100+ business with online communities, most of which had failed to gain traction with customers. Why the failure? Most have a tendency to get seduced by technology, rather than the hard work of assigning a community manager and engaging in conversation. Additionally, objectives and measurement are not in alignment. WOM marketing and increasing customer loyalty are the primary objectives, but businesses are using number of visits to the site, a reach metric that is not a predictor for WOM influence or loyalty.
